Sharks Fall to Blue at Wellesley Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College Cross Country team topped Simmons College with a perfect score, taking the top seven spots in the 2012 Wellesley Invitational. The 5K race took place at Wellesley?s lake course on a humid Saturday morning.

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College Cross Country team topped Simmons College with a perfect score, taking the top seven spots in the 2012 Wellesley Invitational. The 5K race took place at Wellesley's lake course on a humid Saturday morning.

Blue first-year Laura Brindley won the individual title, taking first place out of 32 total runners, with a time of 20:22:42. Sophomores Alexandra Dunn and Nicole Chui finished in second and third with times of 20:29.48 and 20:40.88.

Shortly after, junior Doris Berman crossed in fourth (20:56:17), while first-year Sharon Ng was the Blue's final scorer, finishing fifth in 21:01.07. Junior Skye Roberts came in at sixth in 21:06.58 and rounding out the top seven was junior Jane Lodwick with a time of 21:17.00.

Senior Nicole Chao (Fremont, Calif.) led Simmons with an eighth place finish in a time of 21:19.56. She was followed by first-year Tiffany Pierce (Ballston Lake, N.Y.), who recorded a 10th place finish in 21:41.92. Sophomore Shelly Potter (York, Maine) (22:23.17) and junior Bre Glynn (Marshfield, Mass.) (22:23.17) placed 12th and 13th, while senior Megan Coffey (Wilmot Flat, N.H.) rounded out the scorers for the Sharks in 19th place with a 23:16.67.

Wellesley finished the meet with 15 points, the lowest score possible, while Simmons finished second with 50 points.

Both teams are back in action next weekend at their respective conference championships. Wellesley will race at the NEWMAC Championships at Smith on Saturday, while Simmons races in the GNAC Championships at Rivier College on Saturday.
