Three Sharks Receive GNAC Weekly Honors

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons tennis and cross country swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly awards announced Tuesday by the conference. Sharks tennis clinched the #1 seed for the upcoming conference tournament and cross country ran to their second consecutive first place team finish on Thursday.

Sharks tennis freshman Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) also received GNAC Tennis Rookie of the Week honors in addition to Tennis Rookie of the Year, awarded earlier this week.

Nicole Chao was the Sharks top finisher in the Wellesley Invitational Saturday morning, clocking in at 21:19 in her first 5K race of the season. Chao finished eighth overall, and helped to lead Simmons to a second place finish at the meet. Tiffany Pierce was the second Sharks runner to cross the finish line on Saturday, finishing 10th overall with a time of 21:40.

Meghan Cokely won both of her GNAC semifinal and GNAC final matches this weekend to help the Sharks capture their fifth consecutive GNAC Tennis Championship. Cokely also added a doubles win against Johnson & Wales in the semifinals on Saturday.

Cross Country travels to Rivier College on Saturday, October 27th to conclude their season at the GNAC Championships.
