Sharks Tennis and Cross Country Sweep GNAC Weekly Awards

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons tennis and cross country swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly awards announced Tuesday by the conference. Sharks tennis clinched the #1 seed for the upcoming conference tournament and cross country ran to their second consecutive first place team finish on Thursday.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons cross-country swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly awards announced Tuesday as senior Nicole Chao (Fremont, Calif.) was named GNAC Runner of the Week and freshman Tiffany Pierce (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) received Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season. Sharks tennis freshman Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) also received GNAC Tennis Rookie of the Week honors in addition to Tennis Rookie of the Year, awarded earlier this week.

Sharks freshman Tiffany Pierce (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) was named GNAC Rookie of the Week for her first place finish at the Pine Manor Invitational on Thursday in a time of 21:07, while senior Megan Coffey (Wilmot Flat, N.H.) came in a close second to earn GNAC Runner of the Week honors.

In tennis, Sharks junior Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) was named GNAC Player of the Week after a perfect 4-0 record last week, with all victories at the number one position against Emmanuel College and Johnson and Wales University. Freshman Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) received GNAC Rookie of the Week honors for a flawless 6-0 record playing at number one and number two singles and number one doubles. Cokely only lost one game total over the six sets played.
