BOSTON, Mass. – Five Simmons athletes were recognized for their athletic achievements this week when the Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced its weekly honors Tuesday.

Senior soccer goalkeeper Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) was named GNAC Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week. Wheeler had a stellar week in net for the Sharks, recording two shutout wins against GNAC rivals Emerson 2-0, and Johnson & Wales University, 1-0. She stopped all 14 shots she faced, which solidified a playoff spot for the Sharks.

With another GNAC Championship win on Sunday, Simmons Tennis sophomore Allison Bodek (Lynnfield, Mass.) and freshman Nicole Eskenazi (Goleta, Calif.) were named GNAC Tennis Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. Bodek went 3-0 in her matches this week, with a doubles win over Johnson & Wales in the GNAC Semifinals followed by a #1 doubles win in the GNAC Championship against a two-season undefeated doubles team from Emerson. Bodek's win at #3 singles was the deciding match in the Sharks fourth consecutive GNAC Championship.

Eskenazi received Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season after an impressive 4-0 week for the Sharks. She was pivotal in both the semifinals and championship as she swept her opponents, providing necessary points for the Sharks. She remains undefeated in conference play with a perfect 18-0 rookie campaign.

In its first year as a varsity sport, Simmons Cross Country placed second at the Wellesley College Invitational Saturday with sophomore Moriah Cohen (Bennington, Vt.) receiving GNAC Women's Runner of the Week honors for her 8th place finish in 21:32 on the 5K course. Freshman standout Shelly Potter (York, Maine) placed third overall in a time of 20:53, earning her GNAC Women's Rookie of the Week honors.

The Sharks wrap up their regular season contests this week and begin playoff action on Saturday, October 29th.
