Lacrosse Defeated by SUNY Oneonta, 21-8

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Simmons College women's lacrosse team was defeated by State University of New York Oneonta, 21-8, this morning at the Countryside Complex in Clearwater, Fla. The Sharks fall to 2-1 on the season, while the Red Dragons improve to 1-0-1.

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Simmons College women's lacrosse team was defeated by State University of New York Oneonta, 21-8, this morning at the Countryside Complex in Clearwater, Fla. The Sharks fall to 2-1 on the season, while the Red Dragons improve to 1-0-1.

Oneonta outshot Simmons, 37-20 and owned a 37-12 advantage on ground balls. 

The Sharks were led by junior midfielder Mallory Cottam (Hope, R.I.) with three goals and added three draw controls and a pair of ground balls, while senior attacker Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and picked up a ground ball. Sophomore midfielder Amina Mansouri (Revere, Mass.) contributed with a goal, three draw controls and a pair of ground balls, while junior midfielder Ana Giarrusso (Hingham, Mass.) scored a goal, won four draws and recorded two ground balls. Senior goalie Chyenne Yeager (Indiana, Pa.) stopped five of 16 shots in 25 minutes of action, before yielding to first year Cat Cross (Beverly, Mass.), who turned away four of 14 shots in the final 35 minutes of play.

Senior Taylor Casey (Garden City South, N.Y.) led the attack for the Red Dragons with a career high six goals and six assists. Her 12 points brought her to 201 points for her career making her the fifth player in program history to eclipse 200 career points. Classmate Jaime Morris (West Nyack, N.Y.) contributed three goals and three assists.  Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem, N.Y.) and Erin Fowler (East Meadow, N.Y.) each collected three goals. Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin, N.Y.) registered four points on one goal and three assists. Junior Jaclyn Marry (Long Beach, N.Y.) and sophomore Lexi Keen (Clifton Park, N.Y.) split time in goal each making four saves in their 30 minutes of action.  Marry was the starter and picked up her first win of the season.

Simmons returns to action on Thursday, March 8 when it takes on Saint Vincent College for a 6:00 p.m. at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Fla, while Oneonta plays Misericordia University on the same day at 11:00 a.m. in Clearwater.
