Fries Named GNAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Lacrosse Player of the Week for the week of February 26 to March 4, it was announced today by the league. 

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the week of February 26 to March 4, it was announced today by the league. 

The senior tallied 10 points with nine goals and an assist, while adding four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers in two games. The attacker began the season by scoring five times, including the game-winning tally with 1:50 left in overtime to give the Sharks a 14-13 victory over visiting Colby-Sawyer College on February 27. Fries had sent Simmons into the extra period with the game-tying marker with no time left on the second half clock. The product of Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School added an assist, two caused turnovers and a ground ball to her evening. The Tri-Captain capped the week with four more goals in an 11-7 win over visiting Salve Regina University on March 1 in addition to three ground balls. 

For her career, Fries has been a GNAC All-Conference selection in each of her prior three seasons, including a spot on the First Team last year. She is among the most prolific goal-scorers in school history, ranking second on the Sharks' lifetime list with 134 goals, while standing fourth with 160 points in 54 career matches. Her 26 assists is also the sixth-highest total in school annals. The offensive standout has scored 33 times during free position opportunities to stand second all-time for Simmons. 

The Sharks are currently 2-0 on the season for their best start in school history and will be in action again on Tuesday, March 6 at 12:00 p.m. when they take on State University of New York Oneonta at the Countryside Sports Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
