  • Simmons Softball 16th in NFCA All-Academic Ranking

    BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons Softball tailed a 3.433 team grade point average (GPA) during the 2010-2011 season to place 16th out of 111 Division III teams in the 2011 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Academic team rankings announced last week.
  • Thompson ’11 Named ECAC 2011 Softball Player of the Year

    Simmons Softball’s Annie Thompson ’11 (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Softball Player of the Year, and also earned ECAC First Team shortstop honors, the conference announced today. This is the first ECAC POY honor for a Simmons Softball student-athlete.
  • Sharks Earn 2010-11 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors

    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 598 student-athletes from 16 league sports on the 2010-11 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. 46 Simmons athletes received the honor, and all seven of the Simmons varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC were represented on this year’s Academic All-Conference Team.

    Simmons College Softball finished the 2011 season with much to celebrate: With a 25-17 overall record and a 19-5 mark in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, the Sharks posted two of the best records in program history.

    Simmons College Softball seniors Courteney Collier (Bolton, Mass.) and Annie Thompson (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) have been named to the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District softball teams. Thompson was named to the First Team, and Collier received a spot on the Second Team.

  • Sharks Exit ECAC Tournament with 4-0 Loss to UNE

    No. 5 seed Simmons College Softball gave up a 4-0 loss to the No. 3 seed University of New England in Saturday’s ECAC Double Elimination round following a morning loss to No. 1 seed Keene State. UNE and No. 2 Brandies advanced to the championship game, which was cancelled due to heavy rain.

    Senior Courteney Collier (Bolton, Mass.) pitched and batted fifth-seeded Simmons to a 7-4 victory over fourth-seeded Western New England Wednesday afternoon in a first-round game of the ECAC Division III New England Softball Championship.
  • Sharks Selected to 2011 ECAC Softball Tournament as No. 5 Seed

    Simmons College Softball has been selected to the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III New England Softball Championship, the ECAC announced on Monday. This is the program’s second appearance in the ECAC tournament; the Sharks’ first was in the 2008 season. The tournament is a seven-team field with six teams participating in a single-elimination quarterfinal round followed by a double-elimination format for the remaining four teams.
  • Hennigan Named GNAC Softball Coach of the Year

    Simmons College Softball Head Coach Anne Hennigan has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference 2011 Coach of the Year, the GNAC announced. Hennigan is in her third year at the helm of the Sharks Softball program.

  • Sharks Split With Cadets

    Simmons Softball earned a 12-2 Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory over Norwich University in the opener of Saturday’s GNAC doubleheader before falling 6-2 in game two to the Cadets (6-16, 6-8 GNAC). With the split, the Sharks are now 19-11 on the season, 15-3 in the conference.

    Simmons softball notched a 7-2 victory over UMass Boston on Thursday afternoon before falling 2-0 to the Beacons in game two in a non-conference doubleheader. The Sharks now boast a 16-10 record while the Beacons stand at 16-8 on the year.

    Simmons senior Courteney Collier (Bolton, Mass.) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Softball Pitcher of the Week, the ECAC announced on Tuesday. The honor was announced after Collier had a standout week for the Sharks in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
  • Collier, Thompson Earn GNAC Honors

    Simmons Softball seniors Courteney Collier (Bolton, Mass.) and Annie Thompson (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) were named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week and Player of the Week, respectively, for the week ending on April 10, 2011. This is Collier’s second nod of the season, while Thompson collects the honor for the third week in a row. Collier went 3-0 on the week with a 0.44 ERA, pitching 16 innings and giving up only 7 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 27 batters. She held opponents to a 0.127 batting average as her team went an undefeated 6-0. The highlight of the weekend was shutting out previously undefeated conference opponent Emerson College in a 2-0 win, where Collier also had a solo home run. In addition, Collier batted .500 with a 0.714 slugging percentage. Thompson also helped her team to a 6-0 week. She batted .700 with a 1.200 slugging percentage, and had two home runs, a triple, a double and 8 RBIs. As starting shortstop in all 6 games, she only committed one error.
  • Sharks Sweep GNAC Weekend

    Simmons College Softball secured four Great Northeast Athletic Conference wins over the weekend, earning 2-0 and 6-2 victories over Emerson College on Saturday and two 12-0 five-inning wins over Albertus Magnus on Sunday. With three conference matchups behind them, including two wins over Mount Ida on Friday, Simmons extends their winning streak to eight games and takes the top spot in the conference, previously held by Emerson.

    Simmons Softball took both games of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) twin bill against Mount Ida College on Friday afternoon, 6-2; 14-2, in Newton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 11-9, good for second in the conference standings, moving to a GNAC slate of 8-2, while the Mustangs, who continue their slide losing their fifth and sixth contests in a row, drop to an overall record of 5-17 and slump to 1-7 in league play.
  • Thompson Named GNAC Player of the Week, Earns National Ranking

    Simmons senior Annie Thompson (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for the week ending on April 3, 2011. Additionally, she has been ranked first in the nation among NCAA Division III softball players in Batting Average (.585) and third in On Base Percentage (.611).

    Simmons College Softball grabbed two 5-inning wins over Emmanuel College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader played on Roberto Clemente Field on Sunday afternoon. The Sharks cruised to a 17-1 win in the opener, before topping Emmanuel, 12-4, in the nightcap. The pair of losses drops the Saints to 6-10 on the season and 2-4 in GNAC play, while Simmons improves to 9-9 overall and 6-2 in the league.

    Simmons College Softball dropped two games to Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Saint Joseph’s College in the Monks’ 2011 home opener in Maine on Thursday afternoon. With the 10-3 and 3-2 losses, Simmons falls to 7-9, 4-2 GNAC, while Saint Joseph’s improves to 9-5, 2-2 GNAC.

  • Sharks Defeat MIT, 8-6

    Simmons Softball scored twice in the top of the ninth inning to hand host MIT an 8-6 defeat in non-conference softball action at Briggs Field on Tuesday. The Engineers led for most of the afternoon but were unable to hold on to a 5-2 advantage, falling to 0-1 for the 2011 campaign. The Sharks boosted their overall record to 3-7 with the win.
  • Softball 2011 Season Preview

    Simmons Softball returns for the 2011 campaign when the team travels to Clermont Fla. to tackle the National Training Center Spring Tournament. The Sharks look to have another strong season after finishing 24-12 overall and 16-8 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in 2010, a year that included a 13-game winning streak and fourth place finish in the GNAC Tournament.
