Tennis Edged By Husson to Open Spring Season

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons tennis (5-10) opened its spring season dropping a tough 6-3 decision to Husson University on Friday evening.

First-years Emilie Lapointe and Megan Baadsgaard helped the Sharks jump on the board early with a quick, 8-2 win in first doubles. But the Eagles responded, coming out with victories second and third doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles.

The Sharks picked up a pair of wins in singles. Lapointe began singles competitions making quick work of Julia Barber in first singles, 6-2, 6-0. Baadsgaard closed out the night with a come-from-behind victory over Emily Doten in second singles. After being edged out, 6-4, in the first set, Baadsgaard tied up the match with a 7-6 win in second singles before winning a tie-breaker, 10-7 in the third set. 

In sixth singles, first-year Ainsley Foster nearly came back after dropping the first set, 4-6, with a 6-2 win in the second set to force the third set against Olivia Chandler. But Chandler was able hold off the Maine native, edging out Foster 10-4 in the tie-breaker. Senior Sara Fucillo played solid in fourth singles, taking an early 1-0 lead on Joey Ramsdell with a 6-3 win in the first set, but was edged out 7-5 in the second set then fell 10-5 in the third.
