WENHAM, Mass. – Simmons tennis (0-2) fell to non-conference Gordon College (1-0) on a Labor Day matinee. However, the Sharks continued to show improvement on the courts in their second match of the season.

First-year Emilie Lapointe and junior Julia Perconti performed well at first doubles, pulling out three wins against Gordon's Annette Kim and Serena Ross. But the Sharks' duo ended up falling, 8-3. In second doubles, first-year Megan Baadsgaard and sophomore Laura Lowe also took three games from Chloe Hanley and Abbigail Fournier, before being edged out by a score of 8-3.

In the singles portion of the afternoon, Lowe battled Gordon's Amanda Kim in fifth singles. Lowe nearly squeaked out the first set, but Kim held on for the 6-4 win to take the 1-0 match advantage. Kim held off a gritty performance by Lowe in the second set with a 6-3 win.

At the top of the Sharks' lineup, Lapointe gained more experience. After dropping the first set, 6-2, to Annette Kim, Lapointe was resilient and made it a match taking three games from Kim but ended up falling, 6-3.
