Tennis Claims Victory over Lesley

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons tennis (9-9) edged out Lesley University (10-7) on a cool overcast, Saturday afternoon in late April.

The Sharks came back from a 1-2 hole after dropping doubles to begin the afternoon. Third doubles tandem Sara Fucillo and Julia Perconti  earned the lone Simmons doubles victory defeating Jordan Blair and Annie Dai. Senior Leah Bonis and sophomore Avery Halloran gave Morgan Anderson and Brooke Whitten a fight in second doubles, but ended up falling 8-6.

However, singles was a completely different story. The Sharks ended up taking four of the singles matches, including a two-set victory by first-year Annabelle Halloran over Whitten (7-5, 6-1) in second singles. Sophomore Julia Perconti made quick work of Dai in sixth singles (6-0, 6-2), while sophomore Emily Lopez knocked off Blair in fifth singles.

The first set of fourth singles as a battle between sophomore Avery Halloran and Lesley's Isabella Cottrell. But Halloran managed to escape with the 7-3 tie-break victory to take a 1-0 match advantage. She never looked back and sealed the match with a 6-3 win in the second set.
