Tennis Closes Out GNAC Play Falling to Colby-Sawyer on the Road

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Simmons tennis (7-5, 4-2 GNAC) closed out its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season play falling to Colby-Sawyer College (8-2, 6-0 GNAC) on the road, Saturday afternoon.

The Chargers began the day taking two of three doubles matches from the Sharks. Simmons second doubles tandem of senior Libby Weed and Annabelle Halloran picked up their third win as doubles partners, edging out Isabella Gutierrez and Lily Tria, 8-7, to earn the Sharks lone win of the day. 

Moving over to the singles competition, Colby-Sawyer swept all six singles matches. Senior Sam Margolin gave the Chargers' Amelia Campanella a fight in fifth singles, but was unable to get over the hump, falling in two sets, 6-2, 6-3. In second singles, senior Leah Bonis managed two take a pair of games from Emily Hill in the second set, but fell, 6-0, 6-2.

Simmons clinches the third seed in the GNAC post-season with a 4-2 conference and will host the University of St. Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday afternoon, October 12.
