Tennis Claims Sixth Victory of the Season, Knocking Off Eastern Nazarene, 6-3

QUINCY, Mass. – Simmons tennis (6-4, 3-1 GNAC) won its second straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match, knocking off Eastern Nazarene College (2-6, 1-3 GNAC), 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Sharks wasted very little time with a straight sweep of double. Second doubles duo, senior Libby Weed and first-year Annabelle Halloran improved to 2-1 as partners defeating Eilym Gomez and Maria Busila, 8-4, despite trailing 4-1 early in the match.

Not long after seniors Sam Margolin and Leah Bonis took third doubles from Mya Landry and Mary Boucher, 8-5), while sophomore Avery Halloran and junior Olga Zhizhin completed the sweep with an 8-6 win in first doubles.

In the singles, Weed won her third straight singles match following a two-set, 6-2, 6-0, win over Jenna Schlosser in second singles to pick up the Sharks fourth win of the match. Annabelle Halloran sealed the victory for Simmons defeating Gomez in third singles, 7-5, 6-2. Sophomore Emily Lopez, who slid into sixth singles, won her third singles match of the season with a come-from-behind, three-set, 3-6, 6-0, 10-4, victory over Giselle Carol.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Second doubles partners Libby Weed and first-year Annabelle Halloran came back from a 4-1 deficit to defeat Eilym Gomez and Maria Busila, 8-4.
  • Weed won her third straight singles match with a two-set win over Jenna Schlosser in second singles. She is currently 6-3 in singles on the season.
  • Sophomore Emily Lopez improve to 3-1 in singles on the season with a come-from-behind, three-set victory in sixth singles.
