Tennis Earns Second Straight Victory with Win Over Salem State

BOSTON – Simmons tennis moved to 2-1 on the young season following a 7-2 road win over Salem State University (0-1) on Sunday morning.

The junior tandem of Olga Zhizhin and Vanessa Camargo set the tone of the match with a convincing 8-1 victory over the Vikings' Samantha Tenney and Miah Reyes. Junior Sara Fucillo and sophomore Emily Lopez earned an 8-4 win in third doubles to help the Sharks take the doubles competition.

After going up 2-1 in the match, the Sharks momentum carried forward into singles – winning five of the six singles matches. Zhizhin, Camargo and senior Libby Weed each picked up their second singles victories of the season with wins in first, third and fourth singles, respectively.

Zhizhin defeated Tenney in two sets, 6-1, 6-3, while Camargo picked up the third singles win (6-2, 6-1) over Miah Reyes and Weed defeated Kenzie McLaren, 6-1, 6-1. First-year Annabelle Halloran earned her first collegiate victory with two-set, 6-0, 6-2, win over Abbie Laliberte in fifth singles.
