Tennis Defeats Albertus Magnus, 8-1

BOSTON, Mass. ? Seven different players picked up wins for the Simmons University women?s tennis team in an 8-1 victory over visiting Albertus Magnus College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference dual match today on Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 2-6 and 0-4. 

BOSTON, Mass. – Seven different players picked up wins for the Simmons University women's tennis team in an 8-1 victory over visiting Albertus Magnus College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference dual match today on Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 2-6 and 0-4. 

Simmons won two of three in doubles play, including a win by forfeit at number three doubles. The first year duo of Samantha Margolin (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Laura Frampton (Cumberland, R.I.) recorded an 8-0 victory at second doubles over Albertus Magnus junior Cassie Couture (Waterbury, Conn.) and first year Nayelli Garcia (East Haven, Conn.) to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead. Senior Nallely Magana (East Haven, Conn.) and first year Mariah Mandulak (Shelton, Conn.) earned the lone point for the Falcons with an 8-3 triumph at number one doubles over the Simmons pairing of sophomore Kaili Shorey (Vassalboro, Maine) and first year Mary Miller (Newton, N.H.)

The Sharks started singles play with a 3-1 margin, due to a forfeit win at sixth singles. 

Sophomore Megan McKeever (Stamford, Conn.) gave Simmons the deciding point of the match with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth singles over Garcia to give the home team a 5-1 lead. 

Senior Nickie Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh, Vietman/St. Joseph Prep (Mass.)) defeated Mandulak at first singles, 6-2, 6-4, for the Sharks, while sophomore Sarah Mariski (Portland, Maine) had little trouble at second singles with a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Magana. 

First year Leah Bonis (Bath, Maine) and junior Carrie St. Peter (Chester, N.H.) both did not drop a game for Simmons with 6-0, 6-0 wins at third and fifth singles, respectively. Bonis defeated Couture and St. Peter downed junior Andreah Orr (Danbury, Conn.). 

The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, September 25 when they travel to Milton, Mass. to take on Curry College at 3:30 p.m., while Albertus Magnus returns to the Boston area to take on GNAC foe Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass. on September 28 at 1:00 p.m.
