Women's Tennis Sweeps Lesley, 9-0

BOSTON, Mass. ? Four players were double-winners for the Simmons University women?s tennis team in a 9-0 victory over visiting Lesley University this afternoon on Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 1-2 on the season, while the Lynx fall to 1-1. 

BOSTON, Mass. – Four players were double-winners for the Simmons University women's tennis team in a 9-0 victory over visiting Lesley University this afternoon on Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 1-2 on the season, while the Lynx fall to 1-1. 

Simmons did not drop a game in singles play and swept doubles play as well. 

Junior Carrie St. Peter (Chester, N.H.) combined with first year Samantha Margolin (Ridgefield, Conn.) to earn an 8-2 victory at third doubles over the Lesley duo of sophomore Annie Dai (Milton, Mass.) and first year Summer Lamprey (Webster, Mass.) to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead in the dual match. Sophomore Sarah Mariski (Portland, Maine) teamed with first year Libby Weed (Brooksville, Maine) for an 8-2 triumph for Simmons over junior Mary Pulling (Whitman, Mass.) and first year Morgan Anderson (Bedford, Mass.) at second doubles. The senior duo of Marissa Johnson (Norwell, Mass.) and Nickie Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/Saint Joseph Preparatory (Mass.)) completed the doubles sweep for the Sharks, overcoming the Lynx pairing of senior Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) and Grace Jovanovich (West Bloomfield, Mich.) by a count of 8-3 at number one doubles. 

Mariski won her second match of the day with a victory at number two singles over Anderson, 6-0, 6-2. Margolin followed with her first collegiate singles win for Simmons, scoring a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Dai to give the Sharks the deciding point and a 5-0 lead. Johnson scored her second straight singles win to bump her combined record on the season to 4-2 with a 6-1, 6-1 effort at first singles over Abbott. 

First year Leah Bonis (Bath, Maine) also posted her first career singles win with a 6-3, 6-1 showing at third singles over Pulling to give Simmons a 7-0 lead. First year Mary Miller (Newton, N.H.) followed with her first collegiate win in singles play as well, downing Jovanovich, 6-4, 6-1 at fourth singles. St. Peter closed out the day with a win at number five singles for the Sharks, gutting out a 7-6 (2) first set win, before taking the second set over Lamprey, 6-4. 

Simmons returns to action on Saturday, September 7 when it opens the Great Northeast Athletic Conference slate at 2:00 p.m. vs. Regis (Mass.) on Daly Courts, while Lesley heads to Johnson, Vt. to play Vermont University – Johnson on the same day at 1:00 p.m.
