  • 90 Simmons Student-Athletes Named to GNAC All-Academic Team

    WINTHROP, Mass. – Ninety Simmons College student-athletes from nine different varsity athletic teams were named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, it was announced by the GNAC.

    WINCHESTER, Mass. – Simmons College Head Women’s Soccer Coach Erica Schuling was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, while Issy Verilli (Naugatuck, Conn.) was selected the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year and was chosen for the GNAC First Team along with Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) and Ali Berkman (Natick, Mass.) Alexis Eusebio (Dartmouth, Mass.) was tabbed for the Second Team, while Paige Wilcox (East Sandwich, Mass.) was a selection for the All-Sportsmanship Team, it was announced today by the league.

    BOSTON, Mass. – The sixth-seeded Johnson & Wales University women’s soccer team edged number three seed Simmons College, 3-2, in a shootout to advance to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Semifinals this afternoon in snowy, 36-degree weather on Winsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks finish their season with a 9-7-3 record. The Wildcats are now 10-9-2.

    SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield College women's soccer team defeated visiting Simmons College, 3-0, this evening in Springfield, Mass. to end the Sharks' three-match win streak. Simmons falls to 9-7-2 on the season in its regular-season finale , while the Pride extend their unbeaten streak to eight straight games and improve to 10-3-3. It was just the second shutout loss of the season for the Sharks.

    NEWTON, Mass. - The Simmons women's soccer team scored twice in the second half to erase a tie and come away with a 3-1 victory at host Mount Ida College this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match in Newton, Mass. The Sharks win their third straight game and sixth of their last seven to improve to 9-6-2 overall and 8-3-0 in league play, while the Mustangs fall to 3-13-1 and 2-8-1. The win clinches a home playoff match in the GNAC Championship Tournament for the Sharks.

The Sharks have won four of their last five games and improve to 7-6-2 overall and 6-3-0 in league play, while the Rams fall to 4-7-3 and 3-3-3.

The Sharks could have one of their most balanced programs in recent years and return seven starters from last year's squad. With just one senior, one might think that Simmons is lacking in experience and leadership, but the Sharks also feature 11 juniors, including four All-Conference honorees from a year ago.
