More Personal, Collegiate Top Times Help Swimming and Diving to Eight Podium Finishes on Day Two

WORCESTER, Mass. – Simmons swimming and diving continued collected a trio of first-place medals as personal and collegiate top times continued to come down on the second day of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship Meet on Saturday.

After two days, the Sharks sit in second place with a total of 559 points, trailing Norwich University's 646.5 points.  

Sophomore Carli Quinlan continued her dominance of the field on day two as the GNAC's leading point scorer with 57 points. Early in the day, Quinlan posted the top time of 24.75 in the 50-yard free prelims to secure the coveted middle lane in the finals. In the championship final, she finished one full body length ahead of Norwich's Jenna Tschida to capture first place with a personal-best time of 24.49.  

In the prelims of the 500-yard freestyle, personal-best times for Anna Kelly and Isabel Barry-Ruiz gave them the opportunity to join senior captain Katelyn Quinlan in the championship finals later that evening.

Quinlan took home her first of two second place medalist that evening as she clipped two seconds off her personal-best in the 500 free, touching the wall with a time of 5:31.63. Barry-Ruiz also collected points for the Sharks, dropping 10 seconds from her prelim time touching the wall with a time of 6:03.98.

After earning a spot in the championship finals of the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:42.86, first-year Bee Eckels bested that time, posting a time of 2:41.83 to finished second. Additionally, she came one second shy of tying a personal-best time in the prelims of the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:09.80.

Junior captain Camelia Hannah claimed first-place in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 29.10, while the Sharks 800-yard relay team concluded the night with a season-best time of 8:18.53.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Carli Quinlan earned individual medalist honors in the 50 free with a personal-best time of 24.49. Currently, Quinlan isis the meet's leading point scorer with 57 total points.
  • Senior captain Katelyn Quinlan earned a pair of second place medals with personal-best times in the 500 free (5:31.63) and the 100 IM (1:05.91).
  • First-years Laura Luthi (6:03.98), Anna Kelly (5:56.29), Isabel Barry-Ruiz (5:49.29) and Charlotte Doherty (6:10.86) all clocked personal-best times in the 500 free.
  • Fellow first-year Bee Eckels registered a personal-best time of 2:41.83 in the championship finals of the 200 breast to capture second place.
