Quinlan Captures First Place in Four Events at the Seven Sisters Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Simmons swimming and diving concluded the Seven Sisters Invitational collecting a total of 450 points over the two-day meet on Sunday morning.

Sophomore Carli Quinlan earned four first-place finishes to give her a total of 14 on the season. Beginning with the 50-yard butterfly, Quinlan touched the wall .29 seconds ahead of host Mount Holyoke's Carolina Loayza to secure first place with a time of 27.20.

Four events later, in the 50-yard freestyle, Quinlan collected her second first place finish, clocking with a time of 25.16 before earning her third in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:59.59. On the second day of the meet, Quinlan secured first place in the 100-yard freestyle finishing with a season-best time of 54.32.

Additionally, six other Simmons swimmers posted season-best times over the course of the two-day meet. In the 1,650-yard freestyle, first-years Isabel Barry-Ruiz and Anna Kelly clocked times of 21:40.70 and 21:53.41, respectively. Barry-Ruiz also recorded season-best times in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.00) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.99).

Fellow first-year Charlotte Doherty posted a season-best time in the 50-yard breast (40.08), while classmate Clarissa Weaver clocked a time of 1:19.38 in the 100-yard freestyle. Junior Hailey Stuck recorded a pair of season-best times in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.42) and the 50-yard butterfly (30.47). 

Competing in her first meet of the season, senior Caroline Mazariegos recorded season-best times in the 50-yard backstroke (33.75), 100-yard backstroke (1:13.32), 200-yard backstroke (2:36.78) and the 200-yard IM (2:52.14).

Simmons returns to action with three-day Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship Meet, beginning on Friday, February 2. The Sharks will be seeking their conference leading 19th title.
