First Years Clock Personal Bests as Swimming & Diving Concludes Day Two of MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Simmons swimming and diving was back in action for a long second day of the MIT Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Carli Quinlan continued to excel, nearly eclipsing her previous personal bests in the 200 free and the 50 free. After qualifying for the finals in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.61, Quinlan clipped over half a second in the night cap, touching the wall in 1:59.09 to place fourth in the B final.

First-year Kenzie Lowry also qualified for the C finals of the 200 free with a time of 2:10.27 in the morning. Then in the C finals later that evening the two-time GNAC Rookie of the Week posted a personal-best, clocking a time of 2:09.11 - .69 seconds off her previous best set at the beginning of November against Wellesley and Merrimack.

Fellow first-year Anna Kelly clocked a personal-best in the prelims of the 200-yard butterfly, cutting nine seconds off her previous best with a time of 2:31.49. But the Rhode Island native was far from finished. In the C finals later that evening, Kelly clipped off two-hundredths of a second, clocking in at 2:31.47.

One of three swimmers competing in the C-finals of the 100 breaststroke, first-year Bee Eckels saw her top collegiate time dropped by .32 seconds, touching the wall with a time of 1:17.64. Classmate, first-year Charlotte Doherty also posted a top collegiate best with a time of 1:25.06, while senior Katelyn Quinlan led the trio of swimmers finishing fifth in the C finals with a time of 1:14.83.  

The Sharks closed out the meet with the 400-yard medley relay where the Simmons A squad of Camelia Hannah, Katelyn Quinlan, Carli Quinlan and Kenzie Lowry, posted a time of 4:21.52. Simmons B squad of Laura Luthi, Bee Eckels, Anna Kelly and Kaleigh Stout, clocked in with a time of 4:49.10.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior Camelia Hannah placed first in the C finals of the 100-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 1:05.00.
  • First-year Kenzie Lowry posted a personal-best time of 2:09.11 – clipping .69 seconds off her previous best, set at the beginning of November in a double dual meet against Wellesley and Merrimack.
  • First-year Anna Kelly also clocked a personal-best time in the 200-yard butterfly with a C finals time of 2:31.47.
