Swimming and Diving Performs Strong in Tough Dual Meet against Wellesley, Merrimack

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Simmons swimming and diving returned to the pool with a tough double-dual meet against Wellesley College and Division I Merrimack College on Saturday afternoon.

Reigning GNAC Swimmer of the Week, sophomore Carli Quinlan placed second in the 200-yard freestyle. Touching the wall just three seconds behind host-Wellesley College's Aubrey Cantrell with a time of 2:03.75.

First-year Kenzie Lowry also competed in the 200 free, finishing fifth with a time of 2:09.80. Then later in the meet, Lowry clipped two tenths of a second off her 50-yard free time, touching the wall in 26.39.  

Competing in a pair of individual events, senior swimmer Katelyn Quinlan placed fifth with a time of 5:20.49 the 400-yard IM. Earlier in the meet, the Haverhill, Massachusetts native came two seconds shy of tying her top collegiate time, touching the wall with a time of 5:43.92.

The Sharks rounded out the meet with the 200-yard freestyle relay where the A-squad of Bee Eckels, Kenzie Lowry, Isabel Barry-Ruiz and Carli Quinlan, posted a time of 1:47.82.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior Katelyn Quinlan had two top five finishes in the 500 free (5:43.92) and the 400 IM (5:20.49).
  • Sophomore Carli Quinlan placed second in the 200 free, touching the wall with a time of 2:03.75.
  • First-year Kenzie Lowry clipped two tenths of a second off her 50 free time (26.39).
  • First-year Isabel Barry-Ruiz cut nearly half a second from her 1,000 free time clocking in with a time of 13:04.55.
