Swimming and Diving Showcases Strong Performance in Dual Meet with Smith College

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Returning to the western part of Massachusetts for the second time in as many weeks, Simmons swimming and diving (1-1) dropped a dual meet to non-conference Smith College on Friday evening.  

Beginning the night with the 400-yard medley relay for the first time this season, Simmons' "A "squad of Camelia Hannah, Katelyn Quinlan, Carli Quinlan and Kenzie Lowry posted a time of 4:31.32. The Sharks "B" relay team of Laura Luthi, Bee Eckels, Charlotte Doherty and Kaleigh Stout touched the wall with a time of 5:06.41.

The Sharks saw strong performances in the pool, especially in the 100-yard freestyle, where they took both first and second place. Sophomore Carli Quinlan clocked a time of 57.09 – just two seconds ahead of first-year Kenzie Lowry, who touched the wall with a time of 59.29.

Additionally, it was Quinlan's second first place finish of the meet. Earlier in the night, Quinlan edged out Smith's Bebe Cosgrove by one second to claim first place in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall with a season-best time of 26.06.

Closing out the night with the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Sharks earned their third event win of the night. The Sharks "A" squad of Kenzie Lowry, Isabel Barry-Ruiz, Bee Eckels, and Carli Quinlan finished a time of 3:58.71 – three seconds ahead of Smith's A-squad.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Carli Quinlan won a pair of events: 50-yard free (26.06) and 100-yard free (57.09).
  • First-year Laura Luthi cut 33 seconds of her 500 free time, touching the wall with a time of 6:24.36.
  • Fellow first-year Kenzie Lowry placed second in the 100 free with a time of 59.29.
