WINTHROP, Mass. – After an outstanding season, first-year Carli Quinlan was named the 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Year announced Wednesday afternoon. Quinlan becomes the sixth Simmons first-year to earn Rookie of the Year honors, joining Shylee Stewart (2013-14), Laura Simpson (2015-16), Maria Soraghan (2017-18), Sarah Singleton (2018-19) and Ella Harmon (2021-22).
Receiving four GNAC weekly honors over the course of the winter season, Quinlan had an exceptional first year in the pool. At the GNAC Championship Meet, the Haverhill, Massachusetts native took home a trio of event titles (200 freestyle, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay). In addition, Quinlan secured All-Conference second team honors in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and as a member of the 200 freestyle relay.
Senior distance swimmer Eva Piernas was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team after claiming individual event titles in the 500 freestyle, 1,650 freestyle and the 800 freestyle relay.
