Swimming and Diving Caps Season With Personal, Season-Bests on Final Day of NEISDA Championships

KINGSTON, R.I. – Simmons swimming and diving finished the 2022 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving (NEISDA) Championships fifth, amassing a total of 714 points, Sunday afternoon.

Senior Lauren Howard began the day, securing a spot in the A-finals posting a time of 55.44 in the prelims of the 100-yard freestyle. In the evening session, Howard finished third overall, touching the wall with a time of 54.35. Sophomore Caroline Mazariegos finished second in the B-finals of the event with a personal-best time of 56.95, while first-year Hailey Stuck clocked n with a time of 57.76.

Competing in the mile for just the third time all season, junior Eva Piernas posted a season-best time, touching the wall in 18:51.35 to finish fourth. It was on second off Piernas' personal-best – a time of 18:50.73 at the 2019 MIT Invitational.

In the 50-yard backstroke, first-year Camelia Hannah finished fourth, eclipsing her previous personal-best by .48 seconds, clocking in a with a time of 28.45. Mazariegos came two-hundredths of a second from breaking her own personal-best, claiming second place in the B-finals with a time of 29.72.

Fellow first-year Ella Harmon also had an afternoon for herself in the 200-yard butterfly. The Texas native chipped two seconds from her previous best, finishing fourth with a time of 2:20.53.

Simmons capped off the four-day regional championship registering a season-best time. The Sharks quartet of Hailey Stuck, Caroline Mazariegos, Emma Serth and Lauren Howard posted a third-place finish with a time of 3:44.02.

  • First-year Ella Harmon registered a personal-best time of 2:20.53 in the 200-yard butterfly, besting her previous mark by two seconds.
  • Fellow first-year Camelia Hannah eclipsed her previous best by .48 seconds in he 50-yard backstroke with a time of 28.45.
  • Junior Eva Piernas registered a season-best time in 1,650-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 18:51.35 to finish fourth
