Swimming and Diving Climb to Sixth at NEISDA Championships After Quartet of A-Final Appearances

KINGSTON, R.I. – Simmons swimming and diving team climbed to sixth place following the third day of the New England Swimming and Diving Intercollegiate (NEISDA) Championships. First-years Camelia Hannah and Ella Harmon led a quartet of Sharks to the A-finals Saturday evening and collect a total of 480 points through three days.

In the 50-yard butterfly, Hannah posted a new personal-best time and clipped classmate, Harmon, of the program's season-best time, 27.25. Harmon finished in eighth place, clocking in with a time of 27.95. Moments later, competing in the A-finals of the 200-yard freestyle, Harmon eclipsed her previous personal-best, posting a time of 2:03.73.

Fellow teammate, senior Lauren Howard placed third in the 200 freestyle. Touching the wall with a time of 1:58.77, Howard came six seconds from the NCAA's B-cut time of 1:52.15.

Additionally, first-year Emma Serth and Eva Piernas collected points for Simmons in the 200 freestyle.

Competing in the B-finals, Serth beat out Kiley Matthews from St. Joseph's College (ME) by .52 seconds, posting a time of 2:04.39, while Piernas came in fourth touching the wall in 2:05.80. 

Simmons rounded out the third night with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Sharks quartet of Emma Serth, Hailey Stuck, Camelia Hannah, and Lauren Loward registered a season-best time in the 200 free, clocking in a time of 1:41.86 – less than a second behind Roger Williams' relay team.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • First-year Ella Harmon swam in a pair of A-finals, including posting a personal-best time in the 200 freestyle (2:03.73.
  • Senior Lauren Howard came six seconds shy of registering an NCAA B-cut time in the 200 free, touching the wall with a time of 1:58.77 to finish third.
  • First-year Camelia Hannah recorded a personal-best in the 50 fly with a time of 27.75 and surpassed Harmon for the season-best time.
  • Hannah also finished third in the B-finals of the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.36.
