Season-Best Times Helps Swimming and Diving Hold Off the University of New England for Second Place at GNAC Championship

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Swimming and diving finished second at the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship, edging out the University of New England by four points, with 654 points, Sunday evening.

Senior Lauren Howard led Simmons finishing 12th overall with a total of 60 points and took home a pair of All-GNAC honors. One of those honors came in the championship finals of the 200-yard freestyle, clocking a new personal-best, touching the wall in 1:58.17. Later in the night, Howard registered another season-best in the 50-yard free with a time of 25.36.

Sophomore Sophie Stevenson posted a NEISDA A-cut time in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall with a season-best time of 2:43.63, while first-year Ella Harmon pulled in one of her two All-GNAC honors in the 50 fly. Harmon posted another season-best for the Sharks, clocking in with a time of 27.75.

Junior Meg Driscoll finished third in the championship finals of 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall with a season-best time of 2:30.96, while sophomore Caroline Mazariegos placed third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.16.

The Sharks 800-yard freestyle relay squad of Eva Piernas, Emma Serth, Ella Harmon and Lauren Howard posted a season-best time, clocking an 8:20.03 to finish second – one second ahead of New England's quartet.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Caroline Mazariegos and junior Meg Driscoll also earned All-GNAC medals in the 100-yard back and 200-yard breaststroke, respectively.
