Swimming and Diving Remains In Third Place After Day Two of GNAC Championship

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Following the second day of the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship, Simmons swimming and diving sits third with a total of 366 points – trailing the University of New England by only 22 points.

Qualifying for the finals of the 500-yard freestyle, first-year Emma Serth registered a personal-best in the finals, touching the wall with a time of 5:39.01 – three seconds behind junior Eva Piernas, who finished seventh with a time of 5:36.33. Sophomore Sophie Stevenson also collected points for the Sharks, where she finished second in the B-finals with a time of 5:58.61.

Junior Meg Driscoll also posted a personal-best in the 200-yard IM, touching the wall with a time of 2:18.50 – clipping seven seconds off her previous best. Additionally, Driscoll placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.58. 

After posting a time of 1:04.12 in the prelims of the 100-yard butterfly, fellow first-year Ella Harmon recorded a season-best in the finals. Securing third-place, Harmon clocked in with a time of 1:02.04.

The Sharks closed out the second day of the championship with a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The Simmons quartet of Camelia Hannah, Driscoll, Harmon and Lauren Howard, touched the wall three second ahead of the Regis squad with time of 4:13.17.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior Meg Driscoll registered a personal-best in the 200-yard IM, finishing fourth with a time of 2:18.50 – clipping seven seconds from her previous top time.
  • First-year Emma Serth also recorded a personal-best in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 5:39.01.
  • Fellow first-year Ella Harmon secured third-place in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 1:02.04.
  • The Sharks 400-yard medley relay quartet of Camelia Hannah, Meg Driscoll, Ella Harmon and Lauren Howard finished second with a time of 4:13.17.
  • First-year Camelia Hannah finished third in the 50-yard backstroke (28.93), while Caroline Mazariegos also placed in the A-finals with a time of 29.70.
