CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Simmons swimming and diving saw a quartet of personal and season-best times come down on the second day of the 2021 MIT Invitational on Saturday.
The Sharks opened the day with the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the Sharks' A squad of Emma Serth, Caroline Mazariegos, Camelia Hannah, and Hailey Stuck posted a time of 1:46.67 - .05 seconds from their season-best. The Sharks B-team of Julia Perconti, Eva Piernas, Katie Castle and Kimmy Colbert, clocked in at 1:56.54.
First-year Ella Harmon led Simmons swimming and diving on the second day, posting a personal-best time in the C finals of the 200-yard butterfly. Touching the wall with a time of 2:22.90, Harmon clipped seven seconds off her previous best, 2:29.24 set against Merrimack before the Thanksgiving break. Junior Sophie Stevenson also registered a season-best in the event, clocking in with a time of 2:51.81 – besting her previous time by three seconds.
Junior Meg Driscoll clipped two seconds off her season-best time in the C finals of the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall with a time of 1:11.11. Later in the night, in the B finals, Driscoll dropped 13 seconds from her previous best 400 IM time, posting a time of 5:03.74.
In the second to final event of the evening, junior Lauren Howard knocked a tenth of second from her season-best time in the 50-yard free, clocking in with a time of 25.38 in the C finals.
Simmons closed out the night with the 400-yard medley relay. The A squad quartet of Camelia Hannah, Meg Driscoll, and Lauren Howard, finished with a time of 4:8.16.
SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS
- First-year Ella Harmon posted a personal-best in the C finals of the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:22.90.
- Also in the 200 fly, junior Sophie Stevenson recorded a season-best time of 2:51.81.
- Junior Meg Driscoll registered a pair of season-bests in the 100-yard breast (1:11.11) and in the B finals of the 400 IM (5:03.74).
- Senior Lauren Howard knocked a tenth of the second off her season-best time in the 50 free (25.38).
