Swimming and Diving Falls to Wellesley in Dual Action; Piernas, Howard Capture Season-Best Times

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Simmons swimming and diving dropped a dual meet to non-conference Wellesley College, 172-100, Saturday afternoon, but continued to see season-best times posted. 

Junior distance swimmer Eva Piernas captured the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle event titles, registering top times. In the 1,000 free, Piernas swam away from field touching the wall with a time of 11:24.33, cutting four seconds off from her time from last night at WPI and 11 seconds faster than the next swimmer, Wellesley's Maya Hart. Later in the meet, Piernas bested her time in the 500 free, clocking in one second faster than last night (5:34.99). 

The Sharks began the day with a solid performance in the 200-yard medley relay. Their A-squad of Camelia Hannah, Meg Driscoll, Ella Harmon and Lauren Howard, posted a time of 1:59.63 – just .41 seconds shy of their time at WPI the previous night.

First-year swimmer Ella Harmon secured the event title in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall with a time of 2:32.61, well ahead of Wellesley's Alexandra Bullen-Smith (2:48.68). Junior Lauren Kenney posted a time of 3:00.67 in the event. 

In addition to swimming the anchor leg in today's two relays, Howard placed first in the 50-yard free, clocking a time of 25.48 and surpassed the Sharks previous season-best.

The Sharks rounded out the day with the 400-yard freestyle relay. The A-team of Emma Serth, Hailey Stuck, Caroline Mazariegos, and Lauren Howard finished fourth with a time of 4:00.15.

  • Distance swimmer Eva Piernas secured first place finishes in the 500- (5:34.99) and 1,000-yard (11:24.33) free, registering season-best times in the both.
  • Lauren Howard placed first in the 50-yard free, touching the wall with a season-best time of 25:48.
  • First-year swimmer Ella Harmon earned first place in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:32.61.
