WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University's Jason Erichsen (Banks, Ore.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week for the week of October 22-28, it was announced today by the league.

Erichsen earns the honor for the third time over the swimmer's career and marks the second straight week that a Shark has been the recipient of the accolade with senior Laura Simpson (Perkiomenville, Pa.) being tabbed last week.

The senior won a pair of individual events and helped Simmons win a relay event in a double-dual meet on October 27. Erichsen began the meet by helping the Sharks to a win in the 200-yard medley relay, swimming the breaststroke ahead of first year Sarah Singleton (Mission Hills, Calif.), who swam the lead backstroke and before sophomore Anna Leedham's (Lowell, Mass.) butterfly and junior Aine Scholand's (Albuquerque, N.M.) freestyle anchor leg to combine on a time of 1:56.85 to win the relay by nearly 14 seconds. A graduate of Oregon Connections Academy, Erichsen won both the 50 and 100-yard breaststroke events with times of 33.32 and 1:11.76, respectively and also added a victory in the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:20.78 to win by nearly seven seconds and contribute a meet-best 27 points for Simmons.

The four-year swimmer has won four of six individual events entered this season with two wins in the 50-yard breaststroke and a win each in the 50-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley and has tallied 43 points for the season.

Erichsen has won 18 events during a career that has also seen the senior named to the GNAC All-Conference team last year and the GNAC All-Academic squad following the last two campaigns.

The Sharks are currently 3-0 on the season and return to the pool on Friday, November 2 when they travel to Worcester, Mass. to compete in the WPI Invitational at 6:30 p.m.
