Singleton Named GNAC Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons University?s Sarah Singleton (Mission Hills, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of October 22-28, it was announced today by the league.

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons University?s Sarah Singleton (Mission Hills, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of October 29 to November 4, it was announced today by the league. 

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons University?s Sarah Singleton (Mission Hills, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of January 14-20, it was announced today by the league. Singleton has now received the award three times this season.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University's Sarah Singleton (Mission Hills, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of October 22-28, it was announced today by the league. 

The first year swimmer made her collegiate debut by winning both individual events she was entered in and helped the Sharks win both relay races as well in a double-dual meet vs. Gordon College and Elms College on October 27. 

Singleton won the 100-yard butterfly by more than four seconds with a time of 1:01.65 and clocked in at 1:04.17 to finish first in the 100-yard backstroke. The Grace Christian Academy product opened the meet by swimming the lead backstroke of the team's winning 200-yard medley relay ahead of senior Jason Erichsen's (Banks, Ore.) breaststroke, sophomore Anna Leedham's (Lowell, Mass.) butterfly and junior Aine Scholand's (Albuquerque, N.M.) freestyle anchor leg to combine on a time of 1:56.85 to win the relay by nearly 14 seconds. Singleton also helped Simmons close out the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, swimming the second leg of the relay. Senior Kerry Fleming (Northampton, Mass.) swam the lead segment, while senior Laura Simpson (Perkiomenville, Pa.) and junior Laura List (Bedford, Mass.) swam the final two legs to combine on a winning time of 1:45.11. 

The Sharks are currently 3-0 on the season and return to the pool on Friday, November 2 when they travel to Worcester, Mass. to compete in the WPI Invitational at 6:30 p.m.
