Summers Named GNAC Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Haley Summers (Hudson, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of November 13-19, it was announced today by the league. She is the second Shark this season to have been named the GNAC?s top weekly rookie with classmate Maria Soraghan (East Hampstead, N.H.) earning the honor for the weeks of October 23-29 and November 6-12. 

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Haley Summers (Hudson, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of November 13-19, it was announced today by the league. She is the second Shark this season to have been named the GNAC's top weekly rookie with classmate Maria Soraghan (East Hampstead, N.H.) earning the honor for the weeks of October 23-29 and November 6-12. 

Summers scored 13 points and helped Simmons to a relay victory to contribute to the Sharks' 216-72 victory over visiting University of New England on November 18. The first year captured her first collegiate victory with a personal-record time of 28.84 to win the 50-yard butterfly by more than a second and a half. The rookie placed second in the 100-yard freestyle earlier in the meet with a personal-best mark of 58.65. A graduate of Alvirne High School, Summers turned in the fastest 50-yard split (26.11) of all competitors in the 200-yard freestyle relay, while pacing the Simmons relay unit to a combined time of 1:45.43 to win the event by more than seven seconds. 

Summers has posted seven top-three finishes for the season and made her collegiate debut with a second-place effort in the 50-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 26.40 on October 21 vs. Westfield State University. 

The Sharks are currently 5-2 on the season and will be in action again on Saturday, December 2 when they defend their title at the GNAC Championships at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium on the campus of Simmons in Boston, Mass.
