Erichsen Named GNAC Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Jason Erichsen (Banks, Ore.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week for the week of October 23-29, it was announced by the league today. 

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Jason Erichsen (Banks, Ore.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week for the week of November 6-12, it was announced today by the league. Erichsen earns the award for a conference-high second time after earning the honor for the week of October 23-29. The Sharks also saw sophomore Aine Scholand (Albuquerque, N.M.) receive the accolade for the week of October 16-22. 

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Jason Erichsen (Banks, Ore.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week for the week of October 23-29, it was announced by the league today. 

The junior scored a meet-high 27 points with three first-place finishes and also helped the Sharks win a relay event in a double-dual meet sweep on October 28. Erichsen began the afternoon by swimming the breaststroke leg of the 200-yard medley relay ahead of sophomore Laura List (Bedford, Mass.), who started the relay on the backstroke. First year Anna Leedham (Lowell, Mass.) swam the butterfly leg before sophomore anchor Aine Scholand (Albuquerque, N.M.) closed for the win in the freestyle leg for a combined time of 1:57.45. Erichsen won the 50-yard backstroke by just under three seconds with a clip of 29.79, before taking the 100-yard breaststroke by almost five seconds with a convincing mark of 1:11.78. The Oregon Connections Academy graduate capped the meet by winning the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:19.49. 

Erichsen has scored 40 points on the season with four first-place efforts and a second-place showing. The Oregon native opened the season with a win in the 100-yard backstroke on a time of 1:03.09. 

During the swimmer's career, Erichsen has compiled 48 top-five finishes, including 10 victories. 

Simmons is currently 3-0 on the season in dual meet action and has won 15 straight dual meets, dating back to last year's perfect 12-0 campaign. The Sharks return to the water on Saturday, November 4 when they compete in the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Invitational in Worcester, Mass. at 1:00 p.m.
