WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Hannah Plourde (Westfield, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week for the week of November 14-20, it was announced today by the league.

The honor marks the second time that a Shark has earned the award this season. Miriam Swisher (Albuquerque, N.M.) was the conference recipient for the week of October 24-30. 

The senior scored 26 points in four events over two meets, including a pair of first-place finishes and two second-place showings. Plourde registered season-best times to finish first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:40.52 to win the event by more than six and a half seconds and took the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:25.57 at University of New England on Nov. 19. The Westfield High School graduate placed second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:30.87 as part of her 22-point effort vs. UNE. Plourde also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke on November 15 vs. Babson College with a time of 1:18.35 to begin the week. The Co-Captain helped the Sharks 'B' relay place second in the 200-yard medley relay, swimming the breaststroke leg with a time of 36.50 to contribute to an overall mark of 2:07.45. 

Plourde has scored 58 points for the season, placing among the top four in 11 events, including four first-place efforts. The senior has also been one of the most versatile swimmers this season for Simmons, competing in five different events, including three different strokes in non-exhibition competition. 

For her career, Plourde has posted 77 top-five finishes, including 13 first-place efforts. She currently holds the school record in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:57.41 as well as the GNAC standard for the same event. An Environmental Science and Business Management major, Plourde has earned All-New England status three years in a row for her efforts at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association Championship and was a GNAC Champion in the 400-IM in 2014. 

The Sharks are currently 6-0 on the season and will be in action again on Saturday, December 3 when they defend their title in the GNAC Championship meet.
