PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Simmons College first year Natalie Giraldi (Bedford, N.H.) placed within the top-16 to advance to tonight's Eastern College Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championship Consolation Finals and sophomore Miriam Swisher (Albuquerque, N.M.) broke her own record in the 200-yard freestyle in this morning's preliminaries at Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Giraldi turned in a personal-record time of 1:06.91 to place 16th in the 100-yard breaststroke and nab a spot in tonight's consolation finals.
Swisher posted a school-record mark of 1:54.81 to finish 20th in the 200-yard freestyle for the Sharks. Classmate Shylee Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) managed to finish 40th in the event with a time of 2:01.99, despite competing with illness.
All three swimmers will take part in tonight's consolation finals of the 200-yard medley relay after placing ninth with a time of 1:51.03. Swisher was the lead and backstroke leg, followed by Giraldi's breaststroke split and first year Michaela Morris' (Duxbury, Mass.) segment in the butterfly and anchored by Stewart in the freestyle.
