PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Simmons College women's swimming & diving team set new school records in the 200-yard freestyle and the 400-yard medley relays this evening on day one at the 2015 Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at Trees Pool on the campus of University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The Sharks boasted the best finish among all Division III schools in the three events they competed in tonight.

The quartet of sophomore Miriam Swisher (Albuquerque, N.M.), senior tandem of Joleigh Ferro (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Chloe Davis (Merrimack, N.H.) and sophomore Shylee Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) turned in a school-record time of 1:37.71 to place sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay to open the evening.

Simmons closed out the night with another broken school standard after Swisher, first years Natalie Giraldi (Bedford, N.H.) and Michaela Morris (Duxbury, Mass.) and Stewart touched the wall at 3:56.80 in a fourth-place showing in the 400-yard medley relay. The Sharks finished ahead of Division I United States Military Academy as well as Bucknell University in both races.

Swisher finished tied for 13th in between the relay events with a mark of 24.08 in the 50-yard freestyle. She tied senior Melissa Boughton of the United States Naval Academy and was just one one-hundreth of a second behind University of Pennsylvania senior Bernadette D'Alonzo for seventh place.

Simmons returns to the pool tomorrow morning for the day two preliminaries at 10:00 a.m.
