BOSTON, Mass. - First year Natalie Giraldi (Bedford, Mass.) and the Simmons College 400-yard freestyle relay team each set schools records for the Sharks during the 2015 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association time trials at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium on the campus of Simmons in Boston, Mass.

The time trials were held due to the final day of competition of the NEISDA Championships being canceled on February 15 due to heavy snowfall in Kingston, R.I. at the University of Rhode Island. There was no scoring during the time trials, but all times were official and eligible as qualifying times. There were 10 schools that competed in the trials out of the 21 teams that competed in the first two days of the Championship meet.

Giraldi broke the Simmons school record for the 200-breaststroke by more than five seconds with a time of 2:28.41. Diana Pimer of Keene State College broke the pool record with a mark of 2:21.11.

Giraldi also swam the third leg of the 400-freestyle relay with sophomore Miriam Swisher (Albuquerque, N.M.) leading off, followed by senior Chloe Davis (Merrimack, N.H.) and anchored by sophomore Shylee Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) to set a school and pool record with a time of 3:38.30 for the Sharks to shatter the standard by almost six seconds.

A number of Simmons swimmers also set personal-records with first year Lindsay Nichols (Kennebunk, Maine) turning in a time of 2:29.23 in the 200-butterfly, while senior Kara Silva (Reading, Mass.) posted a mark of 2:37.35 in the event. Davis recorded personal-best times of 1:06.04 in the 100-individual medley and 25.59 in the 50-freestyle. Stewart posted a pair of personal-best times with a mark of 52.98 in the 100-freestyle and a time of 1:56.44 in the 200-freestyle.

The Sharks were also looking to qualify for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in a few events. Stewart qualified for the 100 and 200 freestyle events, while Giraldi qualified for the 200-breaststroke and the 400-freestyle relay team qualified as well.

There were multiple pool records set during the day as well. Gordon College sophomore India Boland added the pool record in the 1650-freestyle with a time of 17:22.83. She had set the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium mark in the 1000-freestyle earlier in the season. Sophomore Katherine Brady from Keene State College established a new pool record in the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:09.19 and first year Hannah Nolte of Roger Williams University posted a pool-record time of 1:02.27 in the 100-individual medley. Pimer later added the pool mark in the 100-breaststroke at 1:06.54, while Keene State junior Alison Bartlett set a meet and pool record with a mark of 23.39 in the 50-freestyle. Sophomore Andrea Almandoz of Roger Williams broke the pool standard in the 100-butterfly with a time of 58.68, while Regis College first year Jessica Higgins set the pool mark in the 200-backstroke at 2:12.25.

The Sharks will be in action again when they compete at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa. on February 27.
