Davis, Swisher Lead Swimming & Diving over St. Joseph's (Maine), 188-73

BOSTON, Mass. ? Senior Chloe Davis (Merrimack, N.H.) and sophomore Miriam Swisher (Albuquerque, N.M.) each won a pair of events to lead the Simmons College swimming and diving team over visiting Saint Joseph?s College of Maine, 188-73, this afternoon at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks improve to 6-2 on the season, while Monks fall to 2-2.

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Chloe Davis (Merrimack, N.H.) and sophomore Miriam Swisher (Albuquerque, N.M.) each won a pair of events to lead the Simmons College swimming and diving team over visiting Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 188-73, this afternoon at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks improve to 6-2 on the season, while Monks fall to 2-2. 

Simmons swept eight events during the meet. 

Davis and Swisher began the meet by swimming the third and fourth legs, respectively, of the 200-yard medley relay, joining sophomores Shylee Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) and Julie Nguyen (Salem, Mass.) to post a time of 2:01.65 to win the event for Simmons. Davis later won the 50-breastroke with a time of 35.78 and scored a first-place finish in the 100-backstroke with a mark of 1:07.27 to finish the day with 18 points. The Sharks swept the 100-back as first year Michaela Morris (Duxbury, Mass.) placed second  with a mark of 1:08.50 and first year Baylee Carroll (Massena, N.Y.) placed third with a personal-best time of 1:13.93. Swisher out-touched Stewart by less than two-tenths of a second to win the 50-freestyle for the Sharks with a time of 25.55 to Stewart's 25.72. The home team also took third place with first year Baylee Carroll (Massena, N.Y.) coming in at 27.77. Swisher captured the 100-freestyle as well with a time of 57.51 to lead a sweep by Simmons in the event. Senior Hillary Wong (Quincy, Mass.) placed second at 1:00.13 and first year Natalie Giraldi (Bedford, N.H.) finished third with a mark of 1:00.76. 

Stewart won the 50-backstroke for the Sharks, clocking in at 30.01 and joined senior Joleigh Ferro (Pittsfield, Mass.) and sophomore Sarah Price (New York, N.Y.) with 13 points on the day for Simmons. Ferro placed first in the 200-freestyle with a mark of 2:08.02 to lead a sweep in the event for the Sharks with Morris taking second place with a time of 2:10.71 and sophomore Hannah Plourde (Westfield, Mass.) finishing third at 2:12.62. Ferro also placed second in the 500-freestyle with a personal-best time of 5:54.46 to teammate Jordan Mattheisen (Seattle, Wash.), who won the race with a personal-record time of 5:48.97. Price (1:19.60) won the 100-breaststroke by less than a second over Saint Joseph's Anne Fougere (Warner, N.H.) (1:20.57). Price's personal-record time of 1:17.04 in the 100-butterfly was good for second behind teammate Kevyn Lee (New York City, N.Y.), who hit the wall first with a personal-record time of 1:14.05. 

Giraldi won the 50-butterfly with a personal-best mark of 29.91 in a Simmons sweep of the event. First year Abigail Gonzalez (Kennesaw, Ga.) finished second with a personal-record time of 31.31 and Plourde's personal-best time of 32.15 was good for third. 

First year Leyan Li (Deerfield, N.H.) racked up a career-best 150.40 points to win the one-meter diving event for the Sharks. 

Sophomore Lauren Prue (Glenburn, Maine) led the Monks with 11 points on the day by placing in three different events. She won the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:43.25, finishing just six one-hundreths of a second ahead of teammate junior Alexandra Krasco (Melrose, Mass.), who touched the wall at 2:43.31. Sophomore Lauren Halvorsen (South Portland, Maine) tallied 10 points on the afternoon for Saint Joseph's and won a spirited 1000-freestyle by just two one-hundreths of a second with a time of 12:26.09. Junior Rachel Chenard (Saco, Maine) placed second for the Sharks with a time of 12:26.11. Halvorsen later joined teammates Brooke Huberdeau (North Andover, Mass.), Fougere and junior Olivia Pickering (South Portland, Maine) to win the 200-freestyle relay with a time of 2:02.12 to end the day. 

The Sharks will return to action on Tuesday, January 13 when they head to North Dartmouth, Mass. to take on University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at 6:00 p.m., while the Monks head to Biddeford, Maine on January 16 for a 6:00 p.m. meet with University of New England.
