SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Sophomore Shylee Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) won a pair of races to lead the Simmons College women's swimming & diving team in a loss to host Mount Holyoke College, 116-73, this afternoon at the MHC Natatorium in South Hadley, Mass. The Sharks fall to 5-2 on the season, while the Lyons improve to 5-2.

Stewart went undefeated on the day in her individual entries for Simmons, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 26.00 and the 100-yard free style just two events later with a time of 56.45, while senior teammate Chloe Davis (Merrimack, N.H.) placed third in the event with a time of 58.61. Stewart led off the 200-free relay for the Sharks and set the tone as they placed first among scoring units in the event with a mark of 1:44.15. Davis, senior Joleigh Ferro (Pittsfield, Mass.) and sophomore Miriam Swisher (Albuquerque, N.M.) joined Stewart for the victory.

First year Natalie Giraldi (Bedford, N.H.) also scored a first-place effort for the Sharks with a time of 1:10.68 to capture the 100-breaststroke by almost four seconds. She registered a second-place showing in the 50-breastroke with a time of 33.49 to finish just three one-hundreths of a second behind Mount Holyoke first year Claire Beckett (Haslett, Mich.), who hit the wall at 33.46.

First year Michaela Morris (Duxbury, Mass.) collected 11 points on the day for Simmons with a pair of second-place efforts and a third-place finish. Morris placed second in the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:03.44, finishing behind sophomore Katie Tyler (Hadley, Mass.) for the Lyons, who clocked in at 1:02.75. First year Lindsay Nichols (Kennebunk, Maine) turned in a fourth-place finish for Simmons with a personal-best mark of 1:07.80. Morris was also second in the 50-butterfly with a mark of 28.91 to Tyler again, who swam a 27.45. Sophomore Julie Nguyen (Salem, Mass.) posted a personal-best time of 30.76 to place fourth for the Sharks. Morris was the Sharks' top finisher in the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:26.87 for her first collegiate finish in the event, while junior Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C.) won the race with a mark of 2:14.81 for her third individual win of the day to lead the Lyons.

Swisher also took home a pair of second-place finishes for Simmons. The second-year swimmer clocked in at 2:01.46 in the 200-freestyle, which Pruden won for Mount Holyoke with a time of 1:57.58. First year Emily Papp (Newtown, Conn.) placed fourth in the race for the Sharks with a personal-best time of 2:08.64. Swisher was also second in the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:06.43. Sophomore Anne Kuenning (Bow, N.H.) won the event for the Lyons in 1:02.56, while Ferro finished third for Simmons with a personal-best time of 1:07.15. Ferro placed second in the 50-backstroke, earlier in the meet, with a time of 30.73 to Kuenning, who registered a time of 29.58. 

Pruden also won the 500-freestyle for Mount Holyoke by nearly 16 seconds with a time of 5:25.66, while sophomore Sarah Price (New York, N.Y.) was the top finisher in the race for the Sharks, hitting the wall with a personal-best time of 5:46.16.

Pruden also helped the the Lyons' 200-medley relay team to victory with a time of 1:54.02. Other members of the relay included Kuenning, senior Maya Lazarovich (South Burlington, Vt.) and Tyler. 

Senior Rachel Boynton (Northampton, Mass.) captured the 1,000-freestyle (11:40.28) for Mount Holyoke, while junior Kevyn Lee (New York City, N.Y.) placed third as Simmons top finisher with a mark of 12:06.66.

The Lyons also saw junior diver Kelly Sin Ee Lim (Melaka, Malaysia) post victory off both boards, winning the one-meter with 154.70 points, and the three-meter with 163.00 points, while first year Leyan Li (Deerfield, N.H.) scored a career-best 125.15 points to place third in the one-meter event for the Sharks.

Simmons returns to the water right away with a 1:00 p.m. meet tomorrow at the Holmes Sports Center in Boston, Mass., taking on Saint Joseph's College (Maine), while Mount Holyoke is back in action on January 13 in a 1:00 pm tri-meet at Vassar College against the host Brewers and Trinity College.
