Stewart Wins 100 Breast at NEISDA; Sharks 4th After Day Two

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Swimming & Diving suffered their first loss of the 2013-2014 season as the visiting Wellesley College Blue swam to a 201-102 victory at the Holmes Sports Center Saturday afternoon. 

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons first years Miriam Swisher (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Sarah Price (New York, N.Y.) were named named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, announced Tuesday by the conference.

KINGSTON, R.I. -- After two days of competition, Simmons Swimming & Diving is ranked 4th at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships at the University of Rhode Island this weekend. Due to the impending snow storm, Saturday's finals were moved to the morning session.

Simmons began the day with the 200 Medley Relay, finishing seventh in a talented field. Joleigh Ferro (Pittsfield, Mass.), Jordan Mattheisen (Seattle, Was.), Amy Davis (Southbury, Conn.) and Chloe Davis (Merrimack, N.H.) finished in 1:59.99, adding 46 points to the Sharks team score.

In the 400 IM, first year Hannah Plourde (Westfield, Mass.) finished fifth, first year Maggie Kirby (Arnold, Md.) finished eighth, and C. Davis swam to a 12th place finish for Simmons. Amy Davis took 9th in the 50 Fly and Miriam Swisher (Albuquerque, N.M.) added her second-straight second place finish of the weekend, this time in the 200 Free. The Sharks gained valuable points in the event from Julie Nguyen (Salem, Mass.), who finished 11th, Sarah Price (New York, N.Y.), who finished 12th Hillary Wong (Quincy, Mass.), who finished 14th. 

First Year Shylee Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) took top honors in the 100 Breast at her first New England's, finishing almost a full second ahead of second place. Emmie Lindholm (Sterling, Mass.) had a strong swim in the 1000 Free, finishing 13th, while teammate Kevyn Lee (New York, N.Y.) added nine points for the Sharks, finishing 17th. 

In the final event of the day, the Sharks 800 Free Relay team of Jen Collins (Trumbull, Conn.), Stewart, A. Davis, and Swisher swam to a first place finish by more than 11 seconds. 

Simmons is just 23 points out of second place heading into the final day of competition. Sunday prelims will begin at 10:00 AM with evening finals beginning at 5:30 PM.
