Sharks Top Babson, 181-111 to End Five-Year Drought

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Swimming & Diving will kick off their 2013-2014 season on Saturday with the goal to remain undefeated in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Fresh off Thanksgiving break, Simmons Swimming & Diving defeated the Babson College Beavers 181-111 Tuesday evening to end a five-year drought for the Sharks in the the meeting of the two teams.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Swimming and Diving defeated the visiting UMass Dartmouth Corsairs 155-81, Tuesday evening in the Sharks final home meet of the season. Before the meet began, the Sharks honored the team's five seniors, Rachel Lagasse (Hartford, Vt.), Jen Collins (Trumbull, Conn.), Amy Davis (Southbury, Conn.), Collen DuBois (Walpole, Mass.) and Rachael Mullen (Peabody, Mass.) for their dedication to Simmons Swimming and Diving.

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Fresh off Thanksgiving break, Simmons Swimming & Diving defeated the Babson College Beavers 181-111 Tuesday evening to end a five-year drought for the Sharks in the the meeting of the two teams. The Sharks were led by senior Jen Collins (Trumbull, Conn.), who won the 500 Free by a tenth of a second after swimming stroke for stroke with Babson's top seed. She also won the 200 IM and the 100 Free for 27 individual points.

 

Simmons first years Shylee Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) won both the 200 Free and the 100 Breast for 18 points and Miriam Swisher (Albuquerque, NM) won the 50 Free and broke her own 50 Backstroke record during the Medley relay with a time of 28.62. for 17 points. 

 

Sophomore Kevyn Lee (New York, N.Y.) posted a huge win in the 1000 by a commanding 35 seconds, and senior Amy Davis (Southbury, Conn.) took top honors in the 50 Fly. Jordan Mattheisen (Seattle, Was.) won the 50 Breast for her first win on the season and the Sharks swept the 200 Free and 100 Free, finishing 1-2-3 in both events. 

 

"I couldn't be more pleased with the effort that the team put into tonight's win.  We have lost to Babson for five years in a row and it definitely feels good to put an end that that streak," said Head Coach Mindy Williams. Coming off of Thanksgiving Break, I didn't expect fast times, but our athletes proved me wrong.  Hopefully this confidence will trickle into this weekend's championship."

 

The Sharks return to the pool on Saturday and Sunday at the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships held at the Holmes Sports Center and Simmons College. Saturday's events begin at 10:30 AM.
