Sharks Cruise Past Panthers, 166-97

After a celebration of the Sharks' six seniors, Molly Bohannon (Deep River, Conn.), Anne Karasek (Brookline, Mass.), Rachael Mullen (Peabody, Mass.), Marissa Soucy (Mont Vernon, N.H.), Isabel Stearns (Plymouth, Mass.) and Liz Zamagni (Chelmsford, Mass.), Simmons won the first four events to set the pace for the meet.

 

Leading the Sharks with 27 individual points were senior Molly Bohannon and freshman Maddy McDonald (Westwood, Mass.). Bohannon won both distance freestyle events, finishing the 500 Free by just under a second ahead of Panthers Delia Foley and the 1000 Free by a 15 second margin. Bohannon also secured the top spot in the 200 Fly.

 

McDonald won all three of her freestyle events. In the 50 Free, she out touched PSU's Kelly Merkle by under a second, while in the 100 and 200 Free, McDonald won by a sizable margin.

 

Junior Amy Davis (Southbury, Conn.) recorded 13 individual points for her first place finish in the 50 Fly and second place finish in the 200 Fly, and sophomore Joleigh Ferro (Pittsfield, Mass.) add 13 points of her own for her win in the 50 Back and second place finish in the 100 Free behind McDonald.

 

In diving, Rachel Lagasse (Hartford, Vt.) edged Panthers Shannon Rogers by 1.9 points for a first place finish (178.90) and Collen DuBois (Walpole, Mass.) finished third with 131.80 points. Rogers won the 3-meter event.

 

In the 200 Breast event, freshman Kevyn Lee (New York, N.Y.) swam a season best 2:48.26 for a first place finish and teammate Liz Zamagni finished just second in 2:49.66.

 

The Sharks dominated the 200 Medley Relay for the second straight meet, with the team of Ferro, Zamagni, Soucy and A. Davis winning the event by more than five seconds.

 

The Sharks will compete in the 2013 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships on February 8-10 at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center to complete their season.
