Sharks Show Depth in 166-103 Win Over Western New England

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons swimming and diving won 12 events to defeat the Western New England University Golden Bears, 166-103 Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Sports Center.

Junior Amy Davis (Southbury, Conn.) led all Sharks with 27 individual points for her first place finish in the 100 Free (59.32), 200 Free (2:09.68) and 50 Fly (29.83).  Senior Molly Bohannon (Deep River, Conn.) added 18 points for her wins in the 100 Fly (1:06.73) and 500 Free (5:45.49) and Chloe Davis (Merrimack, N.H.) came from behind to defeat Courtney Fitzpatrick in the 400 IM in 5:08.04.

 

Simmons freshman Maddy McDonald (Westwood, Mass.) 13 points for her more than three second victory in the 50 Free (26.33) and senior Liz Zamagni (Chelmsford, Mass.) swam a thrilling race in the 50 Breast, out touching Western New England's Allison Ryan by three tenths of a second.

 

Ryan continued to pressure the Sharks in the 200 Breast, her third event of the day. With a sizable lead for much of the race, Simmons freshman Rachel Chenard (Saco, Maine) closed the gap and beat Ryan to the wall by less than four tenths of a second.

 

The Golden Bears took top honors in the 200 Back as Danielle Caron finished first by a five second margin (2:27.93). Joleigh Ferro (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Kristen Vickey (Taunton, Mass.) finished second and third in the event.

 

The Sharks continue to dominate in the 200 Medley Relay, with a first place finish by McDonald, Zamagni, Bohannon and Ferro, and third finish by Vickey, Isabel Stearns (Plymouth, Mass.), Meredith Williams (Peabody, Mass.) and Hillary Wong (Quincy, Mass.).

 

In the diving events, Rachel Lagasse (Hartford, Vt.) took home the top spot in the 1-meter event with 166.45 points, while Colleen Dubois (Walpole, Mass.) won the 3-meter competition.

 

The Sharks end their regular season at home tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. versus Plymouth State University.
