Collins and Lee Sweep GNAC Swimming Weekly Awards

BOSTON, Mass. -- After winning the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championship on Sunday evening, the Simmons Sharks swept the GNAC Weekly awards, as junior Jen Collins (Trumbull, Conn.) was named GNAC Swimmer of the Week and freshman Kevyn Lee (New York, N.Y.) was named GNAC Swimming Rookie of the Week announced Monday by the conference.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons swimming & diving won their second meet in as many days Saturday afternoon, defeating the Saint Joseph's College Monks, 175-76 at the Holmes Sports Center.

BOSTON, Mass. -- After winning the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championship on Sunday evening, the Simmons Sharks swept the GNAC Weekly awards, as junior Jen Collins (Trumbull, Conn.) was named GNAC Swimmer of the Week and freshman Kevyn Lee (New York, N.Y.) was named GNAC Swimming Rookie of the Week announced Monday by the conference.

Collins set a new conference record in five of the six events that she raced at the GNAC Championship and scored 33 individual points for the Sharks. She anchored both the winning 200 Free and 800 Free relays, setting new GNAC records in both events. She won the 200 IM, finishing 6 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher and set a new conference record. She also won both the 200 and 100 Freestyle, setting new GNAC records as well. In the 50 Breaststroke, a wildcard event for Jen, she finished third, just a quarter of a second behind the winning time.

In her first collegiate championships, Lee was the GNAC runner-up in three of her four individual events. She finished second in the 500 Free, 1650 Free and 400 IM, with lifetime best times in both the 1650 and 400 IM. Including her 7th place finish in the 200 IM, Kevyn contributed 23 individual points to the Sharks final score.

Simmons, who won their ninth consecutive championship and 11th in the past 12 years, returns to action on on January 12th at Mount Holyoke College at 12:00 p.m.
