2012 GNAC Swimming & Diving Championship Underway

BOSTON, Mass. -- The 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship and Men?s Invitational are underway as the Simmons Sharks lead the Women?s field with 164 points, followed by Regis College with 99.5, Elms College with 73, Saint Joseph?s College of Maine with 43.5, Husson University with 29, University of Saint Joseph with 26, and Norwich University posting 

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons swimming & diving took first place in eight of thirteen events to defeat the Regis College Pride 137-81 Friday evening at the Holmes Sports Center. The Sharks snap a two-meet losing streak with the Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory.

BOSTON, Mass. -- The 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship and Men's Invitational are underway as the Simmons Sharks lead the Women's field with 164 points, followed by Regis College with 99.5, Elms College with 73, Saint Joseph's College of Maine with 43.5, Husson University with 29, University of Saint Joseph with 26, and Norwich University posting 22 points to round out the teams through the first day of competition.

Leading the men's field for the second straight year is Norwich University, who recorded 122 points, followed by Elms College with 114, Regis College with 110, and Saint Joseph's College of Maine with 79 points. 

 

It was a fast day of competition, with several GNAC and pool records broken.

Women's 200 Freestyle: Jen Collins, Simmons College, 2:00.66

Women's 100 Breaststroke: Haley Bowen, Regis College, 1:10.85

Men's 100 Breaststroke: Stephen McGovern, Regis College, 1:02.52

Women's 50 Butterfly: Svetlana Loranger, Regis College, 28.49

Men's 50 Butterfly: Keegan Goan, Elms College, 24.21

Men's 200 Backstroke: Alex Gilvey, Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 2:04.24

Men's 400 Medley Relay: Elms College, 3:48.89

Men's 1 Meter Diving: Stephen Resto, Norwich University, 193.80

The 2012 GNAC Championship and Men's Invitational will continue tomorrow morning with the first event set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Holmes Sports Center at Simmons College. Sunday's finals will begin at 5:00 p.m.
