WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Simmons Swimming and Diving opened their 2012-2013 season with a win over the Westfield State University Owls, 152-139 Saturday afternoon. Sharks junior Jen Collins (Trumbull, Conn.) led the Sharks, winning each of her three individual races by more than a four-second margin.

The exciting season-opening meet came down to the final event, the 200 freestyle relay of Amy Davis (Southbury, Conn.), Maddy McDonald (Westwood, Mass.), Marissa Soucy (Mont Vernon, N.H.) and Collins that Simmons won by more than three seconds. A Westfield victory in the relay would have given the Owls a one-point (146-145) meet victory.

Sharks freshman Kevyn Lee (New York, N.Y.) took second place in both the 500 Free and the 1000 Free ahead of teammate Molly Bohannon (Westbrook, Conn.), who swam to a third place finish in both events. Amy Davis finished first in the 50 and 100 Fly, while teammate Chloe Davis (Merrimack, N.H.) finished second in the 50 and 100 Backstroke. The Sharks Rachel Lagasse (White River Junction, Vt.) added valuable points for her win in the 1 meter diving event.

Katie Cox, Amanda Labriola and Kirsten LaMotte led the Owls. LaMotte touched the wall first in the 50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, and 100 breastroke. Cox won the 500 freestyle and 1,000 freestyle. Labriola took first in the 50 and 100 backstrokes.

The Sharks return to the pool on Saturday, November 3rd at Elms College in a tri-meet with Elms and Gordon College at 1:00 p.m.
