WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. -- Simmons Swimming and Diving finished 11th out of 22 teams this weekend in the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships held at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center. Leading the Sharks was sophomore Jen Collins (Trumbull, Conn.), who won the 100 IM event in a new school record time of 1:02.21, the first Simmons swimmer to win a New England event since records were kept.

"Seeing Jen standing on top of the awards podium was a very proud moment for me and the team. She is an incredible athlete and fought hard for that title," said Head Coach Mindy Williams.

The Sharks accumulated 36 season-best times, many of which were also lifetime best swims during the weekend. The Sharks broke five school records, including the 200 Free relay of Amy Davis (Southbury, Conn.), Chloe Davis (Merrimack, N.H.), Marissa Soucy (Mont Vernon, N.H.), and Collins and the 400 Free relay of C. Senior Steph Bitzas (Westfield, Mass.) added 18 points for the Sharks, while Anne Karasek (Brookline, Mass.), Wong and Liz Zamagni (Chelmsford, Mass.) combined for 13 points.

"The team's performance at New Englands was the perfect ending to a very successful season for us. The team really increased their training volume and intensity this past winter and their end-of-season times definitely reflected their hard work. I am so proud of this group of athletes. They raced with their hearts and stayed focused through weekend. They deserved every second that they shed," said Coach Mindy Williams.
