Swimming and Diving to Compete in NEISDA Championships

BOSTON, Mass. -- The 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Swimming and Diving Championships and Men?s Invitational are underway as the Simmons Sharks lead the Women?s field with 136 points, followed by Elms College with 97, Saint Joseph College (Conn.) with 82, Saint Joseph?s College (Maine) posting 52, Regis College with 42, Norwich University with 27, and Husson University posting 26 points to round out the teams after the first day of competition.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Swimming and Diving finished first and second in the 200 Freestyle Relay to overtake the Westfield State University Owls 150-144 in the final event of the meet Wednesday evening at the Holmes Sports Center. The Sharks move to 6-4 on the season with the win as the team celebrated its four seniors, Whitney Leonard (West Roxbury, Mass.), Elise Grover (Norwood, Mass.), Suzie Quinlan (Needham, Mass.), and Steph Bitzas (Westfield, Mass.).

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Swimming and Diving will travel to White River Junction, Vt. to compete in the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center this weekend, beginning Friday, February 17th. The Sharks had 14 swimmers qualify for the Championships this year.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Swimming and Diving will travel to White River Junction, Vt. to compete in the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center this weekend, beginning Friday, February 17th. The Sharks had 14 swimmers qualify for the Championships this year.

"The team has had a strong dual meet season, which has helped them gain confidence going into the Championships," said head coach Mindy Williams.

Sophomore Jen Collins (Trumbull, Conn.) is seeded 14th in the 50 Free, 14th in the 200 Free, 11th in the 100 Free and 7th in the 100 IM races, while freshman standout Chole Davis (Merrimack, N.H.) will compete in the 50 Free, 200 Free, 50 Back, 100 Back and 200 Back.

Sophomore Amy Davis (Southbury, Conn.) is seeded 18th in the 100 Fly, 15th in the 50 Fly, 23rd in the 200 Fly and 20th in the 100 IM, and junior Molly Bohannon (Westbrook, Conn.) will represent Simmons in the 1000 Free, 200 Fly, and join teammate Anne Karasek (Brookline, Mass.) in the 1650 Free. Senior Steph Bitzas will join C. Davis in the 200 Back event.

The Sharks have great chance of finishing in the top eight in all the Freestyle Relays, falling only once in the regular season. They are currently seeded 8th in the 200 Free Relay, 6th in the 800 Free Relay, and 6th in the 400 Free Relay. Joleigh Ferro (Pittsfield, Mass.), Elise Grover (Norwood, Mass.), Rachael Mullen (Peabody, Mass.), Suzie Quinlan (Needham, Mass.), Marissa Soucy (Mont Vernon, N.H.), Hillary Wong (Quincy, Mass.), Liz Zamagni (Chelmsford, Mass.) will also be representing the Sharks in relay competition.

"The swimmers are responding well to their taper and they are getting more excited each day. Our season is built around having success at this Championship - I am confident that the athletes will deliver on their goals," said Williams Thursday.
