Sharks Edged By Lyons 154-137

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Swimming and Diving fell to the Mount Holyoke College Lyons 154-137 Saturday afternoon, in a close match up at the Holmes Sports Center pool. The Sharks had four swimmers take home double digit points but the Lyons touched out the Sharks in two close races to take home the win.

The Sharks had four swimmers take home double digit points but the Lyons touched out the Sharks in two close races to take home the win.

The Lyons started the meet on the right foot with a first place finish in the 200 Medley Relay or Lauren Williams, Maya Lazarovich, Joselyn Auxer, and Lydia Bowers. Lazarovich also placed first in the 50 and 100 Breast, and 100 IM events.

Rachel Boynton swam a tight race in the 500 and 1000 Free to add first place points for the Lyons.

The Sharks saw outstanding days by freshman Chloe Davis (Merrimack, N.H.) who finished first in the 50 Backstroke, second in the 100 Backstroke and fourth in the 50 Fly. C. Davis also led off the winning 200 Free Relay, picking up 15 points for the Sharks.

Teammate Amy Davis (Southbury, Conn.) won the 50 and 100 Butterfly in the final yards of the race, finished third in the 100 Free and anchored the winning 200 Free Relay. A. Davis led the Sharks in scoring with 21 individual points.

Senior Anne Karasek (Brookline, Mass.) knocked five seconds off her 1000 Free time to secure a third place finish for the Sharks. She dropped the same amount of time off her 500 Free to break the 6-minute mark with a time of 5:57.72, conquering a goal that she has been after for four years.

Jen Collins (Trumbull, Conn.) added 17 points for the Sharks with a win in the 200 Free and second place finishes in the 50 and 100 Free.

Dana Fry won both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving competitions, followed by teammate Holly Watson who placed second. Simmons' Lea Monahan (Avon, Mass.) placed third in the 1 meter competition.

The Sharks return to the pool on Tuesday, January 17th when they host UMass Dartmouth for a 6:00 p.m. meet. The Lyons will next compete at the Seven Sisters Championship on January 21st and 22nd.
