BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons freshman Chloe Davis (Merrimack, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming Rookie of the Year announced Monday by the conference. Davis was a key contributor for the Sharks all season, who finished 11th at NEISDA Championships and were crowned GNAC Champions for the eighth consecutive year.

Davis had a standout first season, winning 13 individual events and achieving nine second place and seven third places finishes throughout the season. She was Simmons' fourth leading scorer and posted New England Qualifying cuts in every event she raced this season. She was named to the GNAC All-Conference Team for her individual win in the 200 Backstroke at the GNAC Championships in December.

In addition to her individual accomplishments, Davis swam on 10 winning relays for the Sharks, including two conference championships in the 200 Free Relay and the 400 Free Relay, both of which set new conference records and new pool records during the season.

At the NEISDA Championships, Davis finished 14th in the 50 Backstroke, 18th in the 200 Free, and 22nd in the 200 Backstroke. In the relay competition, Davis swam the first leg of the 400 Free Relay and the 400 Medley Relay, which finished 8th and 10th, respectively. She also swam the second leg of the 800 Free Relay, which finished ninth overall.

"We are so lucky to have Chloe on our team. She has a tremendous work ethic and is a competitor. Both traits have rubbed off on her teammates and I attribute much of our team's success to that. In my entire coaching career, I've never seen an athlete make this kind of impact during her first year on the team," said coach Mindy Williams.
