Simmons Swimming and Diving fell to Babson College in the Sharks? home opener on Tuesday night, 170-129. Despite the loss, Simmons turned in some fast swims and are looking strong as they prepare to compete in this weekend?s Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships.

Simmons Swimming and Diving fell to Babson College in the Sharks' home opener on Tuesday night, 170-129. Despite the loss, Simmons turned in some fast swims and are looking strong as they prepare to compete in this weekend's Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships.

The top five points earners for Simmons were:
Virginia Bette - 18.5
Amanda Dirksmeier - 18
Molly Bohannon - 11
Amy Davis - 10
Stephanie Bitzas - 9.5

Bette earned individual wins in the 50 Backstroke with a time of 31.59, and the 200 Backstroke (2:26.04), while Dirksmeier earned valuable points for first place finishes in the 1- and 3-meter diving events.

"The Simmons swimmers had some really aggressive swims.  They knew ahead of time what they were up against and made the most of each race," said Head Coach Mindy Williams. "The races were outstanding. The teams were matched up well, and we really took advantage of the race scenarios."

The Sharks will suit up for the GNAC Championships this weekend at the Simmons Sports Center. On Saturday, prelims begin at 11:30am and finals begin at 5:30pm. On Sunday, prelims begin at 10:00am, and finals begin at 4:00pm.
